On Saturday, October 29, 2023, the Princeton football team used a strong defensive effort to defeat Cornell 14-3. With the win, the Tigers moved into a tie for first place in the Ivy League with three games left in the season.
Princeton’s defense set the tone early in the game, forcing Cornell to turn the ball over on its first break. The Tigers held Cornell to just three points and 330 yards of offense.
On offense, Princeton quarterback Blake Stenstrom threw a 77-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Tamatoa Falatea on the Tigers‘ first break. Princeton added another touchdown in the second quarter on a short pass from Stenstrom to wide receiver Luke Colella.
Princeton’s 11-point first half lead carried over into the second half, but both teams struggled on offense. The Tigers managed just seven first downs and 110 yards of offense in the second half, but their defense stopped the Cornell rally.
Princeton has three more divisional games this season. The Tigers will face Dartmouth on Friday night before hosting Yale the following week. Princeton is currently 3-1 and on pace to win its first Ivy League title since 2021.
